ECHOES OF HERITAGE

We were proud to host ‘Echoes of Heritage’ at the Bosnian Embassy in London – an evening that brought together architecture, music, craft, and conversation to celebrate the richness of Bosnian culture and its evolution into contemporary forms.

The evening featured a presentation by Orhan Niksic, CEO and co-founder of Zanat, who shared the story behind the company’s mission to carry forward a 300-year-old woodcarving tradition through modern design. One of Zanat’s master craftsmen joined us on the night to give a live demonstration of the UNESCO-recognised carving technique – a rare and beautiful moment that gave guests a close-up look at the skill and care behind every piece.

We were also joined by Professor Nermina Zagora, who gave a thoughtful talk on the transformation of interior design in Bosnia, reflecting on how traditional spatial ideas are being reinterpreted today.

Later in the evening, award-winning musician Damir Imamović performed an intimate set of Sevdah music – offering a moving and contemporary take on one of Bosnia’s most emotive musical traditions.

Throughout the night, guests enjoyed traditional Bosnian canapés alongside a selection of Herzegovinian wines provided by Orbit Wines, all in the elegant setting of the embassy.

‘Echoes of Heritage’ was an evening of shared appreciation – of history, identity, and the ways in which cultural traditions can continue to grow and inspire.

“Thank you to @studioaida (in white) for a wonderful introduction to Bosnian culture at your London embassy with a whistle-stop but by no means superficial virtual tour of your architecture and design by Dr Nermina Zagora (I now want a room for star-gazing; a feature of historic houses); lyrical and lilting ballads - invoking a yearning for home among the assembled diaspora - of Songlines winner Damir Imamovic and furniture and objects by @zanatcraft who have gracefullly reinvented a 300-year old local furniture-making business for today.”
